Ohana had its own basketball team in this weekend’s Bronwyn Vigors Memorial Pacific Coast Challenge. Supporting both the Bellinger Valley Braves & Coffs Suns as the local clubs hosting the carnival in bringing teams from as far as Queensland and Sydney as well as being strongly represented by local north coast teams.
Our team brought together our own group of NSW Country representative players from Lithgow, Bathurst and Gosford, they participated with our own daughter Brianna & were coached by our eldest daughter, Emily, just to keep it all in the Ohana family. It was a fun filled weekend with 14 year olds girls enjoying the moment in competing in a sport they love and enjoying their friendship developed over many years in representing NSW.
The girls won their way thru to the grand final and played off for the gold medal against the Ipswich Force from Southern Queensland. The Force have not lost a game this year competing in their own Southern Queensland Basketball League and were easily defeating all opponents in their pool and semi final matches at the weekend. The final was a crowd pleasing display of precision shooting from both teams backed with strong teamwork. Ohana went down 61-51 in what was a pleasing contest by our own girls enjoying the weekend.
Our team has committed to coming back together again next year to go one step further.
